I hope you have all survived the hottest day of the year so far! Fittingly the day of GCSE Spanish exams!

You will see in the Christine’s item below that our new CEO will be starting in September. It will be an exciting time for Camden Learning and our schools going forward. In the medium to long term there will be the challenges and opportunities as a result of the Education Bill. I have attached (below) a summary of the National Funding Formula reforms which you may be interested in. There are also several staff changes that will be happening at the end of this term, with a number of senior staff retiring. Although this inevitably causes some flux in any organisation, we are well placed with the expertise we have within the borough to manage these transitions successfully.

This week, I was out and about in secondary schools, and it was great to see such a positive environment. Pupils looked engaged, happy and ready to learn. No doubt this is a stressful time for pupils sitting exams, which can only be helped by being in such a positive environment. I wish all those pupils well in their exams, and to thank all the teachers who are putting in extra effort which really will change lives.

Next week we are scheduled to have the Primary Headteachers Meeting on Thursday. As you know there are train strikes that could severely impact on transport in and out of London. We have agreed that if the strikes are cancelled the meeting will go ahead in person. However, if the strikes go ahead this will be moved online. We will update you next week as we have more up to date information. As we have the meeting on Thursday, the weekly Tuesday meeting will be cancelled.

Sadly, we have also had to cancel the Governor Conference that was due to take place on Saturday 25 June due to the risk of severe disruption. This will be rescheduled for the autumn term. This will also enable governors to meet the new CEO.

Finally, I’d like to acknowledge the amazing achievement of our Independent Chair, Christine Gilbert, in being awarded a Damehood. It is an incredible achievement, and I am sure you will all join me in congratulating her. We are privileged to have such as knowledgeable and passionate Independent Chair at Camden Learning.

Tracey Caldwell
