About the role
We seek an enthusiastic Head of Science, to lead the teaching of the sciences at all key stages. This is a fantastic opportunity for the right candidate to engage and inspire the large team of Science specialists in the school. We are looking for someone with enthusiasm, vision, resilience, excellent interpersonal skills and a commitment to the aims and values of William Ellis School. Supporting first class curriculum design and pedagogy at Key Stage 3 would be a key part of this role.
You would join a team of well-qualified and established teachers of Biology, Chemistry and Physics who are highly ambitious for our students. Teaching across the team is excellent demonstrated through student outcomes and high take-up of the separate sciences at GCSE and A Level. Science subjects are very strongly supported by the Headteacher, Leadership Team and Governing Body.
The school currently teaches Combined Science to all students other than those who opt for separate sciences to GCSE Level. As far as possible we facilitate the teaching of the individual sciences at Key Stage 4 by subject specialists. As well as teaching Biology, Chemistry and Physics to A level, the school has established a strong Level 3 BTEC Science course, highly popular within the LaSWAP consortium.
The successful candidate will be:
• an outstanding teacher with excellent subject knowledge and a track record of securing excellent student progress from all starting points;
• confidently able to teach Biology, Chemistry and Physics to GCSE level. An external candidate must be able to lead and teach Biology up to A Level. The ability to build curriculum cohesion between Science and PE would be an advantage.
