The School Support and Development Strategy sets out how Camden Learning helps schools evaluate their effectiveness, strengthen their provision and secure the best possible outcomes for children and young people. The strategy recognises that while schools lead their own improvement, the system is strongest when expertise is shared, challenges are faced collectively and support is deployed intelligently.
Our Purpose
- Support all schools to provide high‑quality education
- Identify and share effective practice across the borough
- Provide challenge where improvements are needed
- Equip leaders and staff with high‑quality professional development
- Recognise strengths and respond early to risks
- Build a culture in which every school contributes to system improvement
At the heart of our work is a commitment to excellence and social equity, ensuring Camden’s diverse community is well served and every child is able to thrive.
A Self‑Improving School System
Great schools know themselves well. The strategy places strong self‑evaluation at the centre of school improvement, ensuring each school:
- Reflects honestly on strengths and areas for development
- Uses evidence to understand performance
- Evaluates curriculum quality and inclusivity
- Reviews leadership and governance
- Understands the experience and progress of every pupil group
- Acts quickly where improvement is needed
Camden Learning provides the professional challenge and support that allow this self‑evaluation to be robust, fair and fully aligned with improvement planning.
How Camden Learning Supports Schools
Our support is grounded in a collaborative model that draws on the collective strength of Camden schools and specialist partners. This includes:
- Leadership development programmes
- Coaching and mentoring for headteachers
- Borough‑wide professional development for teachers and support staff
- Learning hubs and joint practice development
- School Governance
- Safeguarding support
- Attendance, exclusions and behaviour guidance
We also maintain a continuous picture of school performance through regular visits, data analysis, strategic meetings and shared intelligence.
The Universal Offer
Support available to every Camden school
The Universal Offer represents the core entitlement for all Camden Learning member schools. It is designed to ensure that every school, regardless of size, context or stage of development, benefits from high‑quality professional dialogue, access to shared expertise, and a supportive partnership focused on improving outcomes for children and young people.
How the Universal Offer Fits into the Wider Support Model
The Universal Offer sits alongside two additional levels of support:
- Focused Support for schools needing help with a specific priority
- Targeted Support for schools experiencing significant or unresolved issues
School Improvement Team
Universal Offer: CPPs
Camden Professional Partners (CPPs) are the key link between Camden Learning and each school, acting as trusted partners who offer high‑level professional challenge, support and guidance throughout the year. Through termly visits, CPPs help school leaders evaluate progress, identify strengths and areas for development, and plan effective next steps. They also ensure that school self‑evaluation remains robust and that performance information is accurate and up to date. As Camden Learning’s on‑the‑ground representatives, CPPs maintain close relationships with headteachers and governors, signpost schools to specialist support, and provide timely intelligence about emerging risks or innovations. Their work is essential to sustaining Camden’s self‑improving system and ensuring every school contributes to — and benefits from — shared expertise across the borough.
Adviser visits brokered through membership subscription
Camden Learning Advisers provide expert support and challenge to school leaders, helping each school remain well‑placed to deliver high‑quality education for all pupils. Their role combines strategic insight with practical guidance: Advisers work alongside headteachers to evaluate performance, identify priorities and respond where specific risks or challenges emerge. They bring a deep understanding of the Camden context and continuously develop their expertise to meet the demands of a changing education landscape. Advisers also act as ambassadors for Camden Learning, building strong professional relationships, signposting schools to relevant programmes and sharing examples of effective practice across the borough to strengthen system‑wide improvement.
