AI Connect students reflect the rich diversity of Camden’s school community. Over 40% of our first cohort identify as female and the majority face economic challenges that make them eligible for free school meals. By engaging young people from under-represented backgrounds, we’re building a more inclusive and dynamic talent pipeline for the future.

Each week, these aspirational students engage in sessions that explore real-world projects, connect AI to sectors such as health, social sciences and the arts. They also gain valuable insights from industry experts through workshops, workplace visits and industry events.

Mentoring: Making a difference

Each student is paired with a mentor working in or with AI. Our mentors come from outstanding local companies including Google, Google DeepMind, Springer Nature and AstraZeneca

The mentoring programme runs from October to July each year, with mentors starting in either October 2025 or January 2026. Mentors meet with their mentees once every half term (every six weeks) to discuss digital career pathways, university applications, career skills and life skills.

It is delivered in partnership with Working Options in Education who ensure smooth coordination between mentors and students.

Get involved

Mentors and students alike describe the programme as a rewarding experience.

Mentors have shared how they enjoy helping students “navigate the choices facing them as they think about the next stage of their education” and observing the “curiosity of my mentee and seeing things from different viewpoints”.

Our students also appreciate the mentors’ support. One student from LaSWAP Sixth Form College reflected, “The support I received has been invaluable – a personal mentor who taught me what soft skills mean, what companies look for and even how to document progress when developing and coding, which is what I aspire to be”.

How we will support you

You do not need prior mentoring experience or be working in an AI-focused role. We welcome mentors who work in and with AI, and are passionate about supporting a young person to thrive in this evolving sector.
