What we’ve been up to

Intensive A-Level Maths Support

The People’s Classroom A-Level Maths Support workshops are drawing to a close after running throughout April and May. Every Tuesday afternoon, Year 12 and Year 13 students from across Camden have been meeting to sharpen their skills ahead of the summer exam series.

Instead of traditional lectures, the sessions focused on targeted, small-group intervention. Supported by a team of 10 expert facilitators, students brought in the specific topics they found most challenging, including Core Maths, Statistics and Mechanics, and received the individual attention needed to master them.

By connecting their weekly revision directly to their university and career goals, students gained both technical clarity and a well-timed confidence boost. Feedback shows that the cohorts now feel much better prepared, with sharper exam techniques for the weeks ahead. Thank you to the facilitators, schools, and students who put in the extra hours.

Camden Students Explore AI and Life Sciences

Camden Sixth Formers have just completed a five-week workshop series exploring the growing role of artificial intelligence in healthcare and technology. Supported by Google, the Knowledge Quarter, and the London AI Campus, the “AI & The Future of Life Sciences” programme was built specifically for local Year 12 and Year 13 students.

Each Tuesday at the London AI Campus on Charrington Street, students learned directly from professionals at world-leading organisations:

  • GSK discussed modern supply chain management.
  • LifeArc explained the technology behind medical cures.
  • Novo Nordisk demonstrated data-driven healthcare.
  • Google Health covered digital health developments.
  • Genomics concluded the series by tackling genetic misconceptions and exploring the role of AI in modern medicine.

The sessions introduced students to a wide range of career paths in data science, logistics, and health sciences, showing how AI is used to solve practical medical problems. Alongside this real-world insight, attendees earned an industry-recognised certification from the Knowledge Quarter and London AI Campus, giving them excellent practical material to include in their UCAS personal statements and apprenticeship applications.

Building Confidence: Camden Students Bridge the Skills Gap with the Donmar Warehouse

Twenty-five Year 12 students from nine local schools recently took part in ‘Next Stage’, a free three-session workshop programme delivered by the Donmar Warehouse. Funded by Google.org and run in partnership with Camden Learning, the initiative achieved the widest school reach of any single Ops Centre session to date.

The programme addresses a well-evidenced problem: academically talented state school students interested in STEM careers are frequently held back not by their academic knowledge, but by a ‘human skills’ gap. Crucial skills like oracy, authentic storytelling, and networking are rarely taught explicitly in state schools, creating a structural disadvantage during university interviews and job applications.

Through workshops led by expert Donmar facilitators, actors, and alumni, the students built the communication skills needed to present themselves authentically in high-stakes settings. The programme specifically aims to give Camden students the tools and self-belief to know that they belong in the prestigious Knowledge Quarter institutions right on their doorstep.

The impact on individual students has been striking. A Head of Sixth Form from Maria Fedelis School praised the programme, noting how much the participating students blossomed and grew into confident, knowledgeable speakers who could easily handle giving speeches by the final session.

All participants received a certificate of participation upon completion. The partnership with the Donmar Warehouse is set to continue into the summer term of June 2026, with the next cohort expanding to draw students from across all ten Camden schools.

Sign Up for June: Donmar Warehouse ‘Next Stage’ Programme

Following the success of the recent spring cohort, the free ‘Next Stage’ workshop programme delivered by the Donmar Warehouse will run again this June for Year 12 and Year 13 students across Camden secondary schools.

Funded by Google.org and delivered in partnership with Camden Learning, this three-session programme focuses on bridging the ‘human skills’ gap for students interested in STEM careers. Through practical sessions led by expert Donmar facilitators, actors, and alumni, students will build essential skills in public speaking, presentation, and networking to help them present themselves authentically in interviews and professional settings.

Workshops will run from 16:00 to 18:30 at the Donmar Warehouse and the London AI Campus. Different student groups are available across the following dates:

  • Groups A & B: Tuesday 2 June, Tuesday 9 June, and Tuesday 16 June
  • Groups C & D: Thursday 4 June, Thursday 11 June, and Thursday 18 June
  • Group E: Tuesday 23 June, Thursday 25 June, and Tuesday 30 June

While schools are currently being approached directly for sign-ups, any staff or parents looking to secure places for their students should contact Jan Shelley at jan.shelley@camdenlearning.org.uk as soon as possible to get involved.

Coming This July: KS3 AI Quests with Google Research

Looking ahead to the summer, we are planning two exclusive sessions in July for Key Stage 3 students centred around the AI Quests programme.

Developed by Google Research alongside the Stanford Accelerator for Learning, AI Quests is a gamified learning experience designed to boost AI literacy. The programme allows students to step into the shoes of real researchers, using an interactive browser game to solve mission-based adventures guided by an in-game AI mentor. Rather than just learning about algorithms abstractly, players get to experience the entire AI lifecycle: defining a problem, collecting data, training an AI model, and testing its reliability.

For example, in the “Market Marshes” quest, students gather rainfall data and town records to train a model for flood forecasting, tackling real-world challenges in climate, health, and science that mirror actual Google research projects.

In our July sessions, Camden students will complete the first two AI quests before taking part in a live Q&A session with a real Google Research expert to discuss how these technologies are applied in the industry.

Dates and further details will be confirmed soon. If you would like to express an early interest in getting your KS3 cohorts involved, please contact Jan Shelley at shelleyj@london-ai-campus.com.

We also have some exciting things on the horizon for summer, so watch this space!
