Supporting complex need in mainstream settings

The Camden Learning SEND Adviser team have worked with Camden Schools to identify the core components of effective provision, including:

  • Clear purpose and alignment with a whole‑school inclusion strategy
  • Robust identification of need through the graduated approach
  • Skilled staffing and thoughtfully designed environments
  • An ambitious, personalised curriculum linked to mainstream learning
  • Relational, inclusive behaviour practices
  • Ongoing monitoring of progress, engagement and reintegration
  • Strong leadership, accountability and sustainable resourcing

The guidance positions enhanced provision as a way to strengthen inclusive practice across the whole school, ensuring that pupils with complex SEND need can access learning, feel a strong sense of belonging, and achieve positive outcomes.
