We were delighted to launch the Camden Learning Post 16 Online Prospectus in October. Our Prospectus is an interactive resource designed to support young people, as well as their parents, carers and advisers, as they make important decisions about what to do after Year 11. This is in line with our commitment to ensure all Camden young people leave education or training with the knowledge, skills and attitudes that will help them succeed in work or further education and training.
Deciding on post-16 options can sometimes feel overwhelming, but this new tool brings together everything students need in one easy-to-use place, helping them make confident and informed choices about their futures.
The new website resource Post-16 Prospectus gives suggestions and guidance on the wide range of options that Camden’s ten secondary schools and Post 16 providers offer. Whether students are considering A-levels, T-levels, apprenticeships, volunteering or entering the world of work, the Prospectus outlines what each pathway involves, what kind of learner it suits and where it may lead in terms of future study, training or employment.
A key feature of the Prospectus is the way that it helps students think about how they prefer to learn, asking them to select from three different approaches:
- In a classroom with teachers and other students
- By doing practical, hands-on work
- By getting straight into real work or by helping out
Each option then asks the young person a range of further questions, depending on their answers, such as: Do you enjoy studying a range of subjects or focusing on one area? Do you feel confident with exams? Do you prefer practical projects or written assignments? What matters most to you right now? Do you feel ready to take on workplace responsibilities? Do you prefer learning mainly on the job or with extra classroom support? Do you want to build skills through training while working?
Students are then given a suggested pathway that is tailored to their preferences. The Post 16 Prospectus enables users to explore next-step destinations and access reliable local guidance from Camden providers, all in one place. All of our Camden Post 16 providers are featured, with a particular reference to pathways for students with SEND.
This online tool is the result of collaborative working with all of our secondary schools and Post 16 providers to make the post-16 decision-making process clearer, more manageable and genuinely empowering for teenagers, ensuring that every young person is able to take full advantage of the rich opportunities available in our borough. It also underpins Building Back Stronger, Camden’s education strategy to 2030, which is founded on the principle that schools are strongest when they are rooted in their communities and connected to one another.
Stephen Hall, CEO of Camden Learning, comments: “Making the right choice can sometimes feel daunting for young people, especially with so many fantastic opportunities available to them in Camden.
“Our Camden Learning Post 16 Online Prospectus equips them with all the information they need, all in one place, helping them to make the best decision for their individual needs and circumstances.
“This new guide is a fantastic resource as we strive to help every young person in Camden find the path that’s right for them.”
