Exciting Week for Every Child Reading by 7 (ECR7) Initiative!
Last week was bustling with activity for our Every Child Reading by 7 (ECR7) initiative!
On Tuesday, November 12, which also marked the inaugural Michael Rosen Day, Year 1 pupils from ten of our primary schools had the wonderful opportunity to visit the British Library for an enchanting afternoon of storytelling.
This magical experience was made possible thanks to our key partner, The British Library.
The children participated in captivating sessions led by talented storytellers Sandra Agard and Emily Hanna-Grazebrook. They also enjoyed an interactive workshop with Ella Philips, the author of My Grandma’s Magic Recipes. Ella shared her cherished memories of cooking with her grandmother, and the children had the chance to decorate their own gingerbread men while listening to her delightful story.
To top off the day, each child went home with a free copy of Ella’s book and a delicious gingerbread man!
Teachers praised the format of the afternoon, providing positive feedback such as:
- “The sessions were short and engaging, which was perfect for this age group. There were plenty of opportunities for participation. Very well organised!”
- “All the facilitators and authors were incredibly engaging, capturing the children’s attention and making the stories and activities enjoyable.”
ECR7 also made headlines last week as part of our collaboration with Bloomsbury Publishing. Jemima Wade, headteacher at Argyle and programme lead for ECR7, was interviewed by BBC Radio London and London Live. She discussed our partnership with Bloomsbury and their efforts to support the ECR7 initiative through author visits and providing free books to schools across the borough.
