Camden Learning is incredibly proud to share that the London AI Campus features in a new film – Are graduates prepared for the AI era? – produced by the Financial Times (FT). The AI Campus is an innovative collaboration between Camden Learning, Camden Council and Google, delivering AI and digital skills learning to young people.
The short film by the FT’s Working It editor – and Camden school governor – Isabel Berwick, explores how students and graduates can prepare for a future driven by artificial intelligence. Isabel interviews a range of AI educators and experts about the tools and skills students need to drive successful job searches and examines how education institutions are helping graduates to find rewarding careers.
As part of her film, she visits our London AI Campus, after being inspired by a session delivered by Nick Wong, Camden Learning’s AI Connect Session Delivery Lead, at this year’s Governors’ Conference.
In the FT film, Nick explains the importance of collaboration between industry and the education sector and how the Campus is preparing teenagers to live in an increasingly AI-impacted world.
“That collaboration between industry and educators is really important, because industry is where it’s really going at a hundred miles an hour at the moment,” said Nick. “They’re the ones who are really setting the stage for the future of work and how these students are going to be using AI in five or ten years’ time.”
AI Campus Director Laura Flynn-Coley explains how young people in the area can see the “beautiful shiny buildings” across in the Knowledge Quarter in Camden but can all too often assume that opportunities at these firms are not for them. Laura stresses the important work the London AI Campus does to raise young people’s aspirations and to improve their access to rewarding future careers.
We were also very pleased to see two of our students featured in the FT’s film. With confidence and pride, they describe the positive impact the Campus and its innovative education-industry partnerships are having on their lives.
Student Shah Bakth told the film-makers: “This course has managed to very much give me a lot of opportunity towards my work experience and just in general, my day-to-day routines and things that I want to go into later in life.
“Not only that, I’ve also managed to secure an internship with Camden Council. That in itself also shows the opportunities that you’re able to get with just being at the Campus.”
Student Hajra Daultana added: “We’ve learned so much, especially with the use of AI and how to fully utilise it.”
Congratulations to everyone at the London AI Campus who took part in this production. The film showcases Camden Learning’s investment in the Campus, as well as the benefits it is bringing to young people in the borough.
The London AI Campus supports the Camden STEAM programme and wider commitment that every pupil in the borough has access to enrichment opportunities, as set out in Camden’s Education Strategy to 2030, Building Back Stronger. Its work also aligns with the government’s schools White Paper published earlier this year, which sets out an expectation that schools should ensure young people are exposed to a wide range of experiences, which, alongside the core national curriculum and programmes of study, help prepare them for life and work.
